NEW YORK (AP) - Boxing could be coming to Yankee Stadium sometime next year.
Promotional giant Top Rank and Yankees officials alluded Thursday to the possibility of staging the first-ever fight at the new, $1.5 billion Bronx ballpark. Muhammad Ali fought Ken Norton in the last fight at the old Yankee Stadium on Sept. 28, 1976.
Top Rank executives were at the stadium Thursday to officially announce Manny Pacquiao's fight against Miguel Cotto set for Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Top Rank boss Bob Arum said it wasn't a coincidence that the first news conference for the year's most highly anticipated fight took place at Yankee Stadium. He said "a big fight is going to happen next year, and it's going to happen at Yankee Stadium."
