NEW YORK (AP) - Juan Martin del Potro has advanced to his second
Grand Slam semifinal with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Marin Cilic at the U.S. Open.
The sixth-seeded del Potro adds the trip he earned Thursday on a blustery day at Arthur Ashe Stadium to a semifinal he made at the French Open earlier this year.
After dropping the first set against No. 16 Cilic, del Potro won 17 of the final 20 games. He'll play the winner of Thursday's later match between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez.
The match was between a pair of players with very similar styles - both 6-foot-6 with big serves. They were born only five days apart in September 1988. They played back-and-forth tennis for about a set and a half, before del Potro started pulling away, taking advantage of 53 unforced errors from Cilic.
