Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Nevada (1-3) volleyball team fell 3-0 at Arizona (4-0) in the Wolf Pack’s first match of the Wildcat Classic by Marriott University Park being played at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. today. The Pack lost by scores of 14-25, 12-25 and 13-25 leaving the squad 1-3 on the season. With the victory the Wildcats improved to 4-0 on the year. Nevada returns to action later today at 4:30 p.m. with a match versus Eastern Washington.
The Wildcats scored the first two points of set one and never trailed on the way to the 25-14 victory. The Pack hit .136 in the set and UA .417.
Set two was tied at 11-11 before UA put together a 7-2 run to take an 18-13 advantage and went on to claim set two 25-17 to take 2-0 lead in the match. The Pack finished with an attack percentage of zero in the second set while the Wildcats hit .200.
Arizona jumped to a 3-0 lead in set three but the Pack rallied to tie score at 3-3. UA then scored the next seven points and won the final set 25-13 and the match 3-0. Nevada hit .115 in the set and the Wildcats .350.
Freshman Elissa Ji led the Pack with seven digs while Erin Garvey and Lindsay Baldwin totaled five apiece. Senior setter Sonnie Sei dished out 12 assists and Kylie Harrington tied for match-high honors with seven digs.
Dana Hutchinson posted a match-high nine kills for UA and setter Paige Weber had a match-high 25 assists. Tiffany Owens finished with seven digs to tie for match-high honors.
Nevada struggled offensively hitting .082 in the match and UA .328.
