Elsbury Sets BoSox Record With 55th Steal

BOSTON (AP) - Jacoby Ellsbury is the new Boston Red Sox single-season record-holder for stolen bases.

Ellsbury doubled and stole third in the first inning on Tuesday night for his 55th stolen base of the year. He passed Tommy Harper, who stole 54 for the Red Sox in 1973.

He's been caught stealing nine times this year.

Ellsbury stole 50 last year, his first full season in the majors. That's fourth in franchise history.

Ellsbury has 114 stolen bases in 296 games. That's not counting the base he stole in the 2007 World Series that earned everyone in the United States a free taco.
