WATERFORD, Ireland (AP) - Lance Armstrong finished in the main group of riders in the first stage of the three-day Tour of Ireland.
Armstrong is in his first race since finishing third in the Tour de France. He updated his Twitter feed after Friday's stage to say the route had been: "Up/down/left/right/windy!! I felt like I was breathing thru a straw. A small straw."
Britain's Russell Downing was the fastest over the 122-mile route from Powerscourt to Waterford. The nearly 360-mile race ends in Cork on Sunday and is Armstrong's last of the year. He is using the event to promote his Livestrong cancer foundation.
