KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Oakland Athletics recalled right-hander Clay Mortensen after the game Friday to make his first big league start Saturday against the Kansas City Royals.

Mortensen was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals on July 24 as part of the trade for Matt Holliday. Mortensen was 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts with the A's Triple-A Sacramento affiliate. He went 12-12 with a 4.68 ERA in 33 starts the past two seasons with Triple-A Memphis and Sacramento.

Mortensen did make one relief appearance with St. Louis on June 29, giving up six runs, two earned, on five hits in three innings.

Brett Anderson, who was scheduled to start Saturday, will instead start Sunday for the A's.
