RENO, Nev. (AP) - The athletic director at the University of Nevada at Reno is upset that the NCAA will no longer hold championship tournaments in states that allow betting on single games.
Cary Groth calls the new policy, approved Thursday, "outrageous."
Nevada can continue to host Western Athletic Conference tournaments but cannot host NCAA regionals or championships. The WAC basketball tournament will be in Nevada in 2010.
Groth and former UNR and NCAA President Joe Crowley say Nevada has had few problems involving student-athletes and sports betting.
The policy does not apply to states that allow parlay betting, lottery tickets, pull tabs and sports pools.
