PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has homered three times in the first six innings of Pittsburgh's game against the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.
McCutchen, a rookie, doubled his home run total with three drives to left field - one just inside the foul pole. He connected leading off the first, and hit a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run homer in the sixth to give Pittsburgh an 11-4 lead.
McCutchen is 4 for 4 with a career-high six RBIs.
The last Pirates player to hit three home runs in a game was Aramis Ramirez on April 8, 2001, at Houston. Darnell Coles was the most recent to do it at home, on Sept. 30, 1987.
