The Giants re-examined Pirates second baseman Freddy Sanchez's tender left knee on Wednesday with a possible deal still in the works, according to MLB.com.
Pirates general manager Neal Huntington has not ruled dealing the former National League batting champ before Friday's non-waiver trade deadline. This, despite the fact the Pirates traded away shortstop Jack Wilson to the Mariners as part of a seven-player deal on Wednesday.
San Francisco continues to be the most likely destination for Sanchez with the Twins and possibly other teams still in the mix, according to the report.
The source cited in the MLB.com report indicates that if the Giants are content with the medical reports that the specifics of a deal are already in place that would send Sanchez to San Francisco in exchange for a package of Minor Leaguers.
Sanchez and the Pirates have been at odds over a contract extension.
