CHICAGO (AP) - Carlos Zambrano pitched six solid innings and hit his third homer of the season, helping the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 on Sunday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
Micah Hoffpauir had a three-run homer for the Cubs, who closed within 2½ games of the NL Central-leading Cardinals. Zambrano (5-4) allowed three runs and five hits.
Albert Pujols was 1 for 4 with two RBIs for the Cardinals, but also committed a two-run error in the seventh inning. Kyle Lohse (4-5), who was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game, gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings.
