CHELTENHAM, Pa. (AP) - A San Diego Chargers running back who lives in Philadelphia is hospitalized after being shot in his car at a suburban intersection.
A condition report wasn't immediately available Friday morning for 23-year-old Curtis Brinkley. An uncle, Gregory Brinkley, tells WPVI-TV that Curtis has been able to talk with relatives on the phone.
Police say the shooting occurred about midnight as Brinkley was driving in Cheltenham in Montgomery County, just north of Philadelphia. Police say they are looking for a gunman who ran to a car and fled, but don't know a motive for the shooting.
Brinkley was a standout football player at Philadelphia's West Catholic High School and a running back at Syracuse University. He was signed by San Diego as a free agent after the 2009 National Football League draft.
