SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego Padres second baseman David Eckstein
left Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers after he pulled up lame while running out a ground ball in the 12th inning.
Eckstein, hitless in five at-bats with a walk, pulled up as he hit the bag after grounding out to third base. He was replaced by rookie catcher Jose Lobaton, who was called up from Triple-A Portland on Sunday and made his major league debut.
Lobaton had never played any other position than catcher in his minor league career, spanning eight seasons.
