OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland Athletics rookie pitcher Josh Outman has been put on the disabled list because of a sprained left elbow.

Outman had an MRI exam Monday and had been scheduled for a more extensive test Wednesday. He left his start last Friday at San Diego after 1 2-3 innings.

The move to put the 24-year-old Outman on the disabled list is retroactive to Saturday. He is 4-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 14 games this season.

Oakland recalled lefty Gio Gonzalez from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday to start the series finale against the San Francisco Giants.
