ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Ivan Rodriguez has tied the major league
record for games played as a catcher.
Rodriguez, now with the Astros, caught his 2,226th career game Tuesday night in Texas, where his career began at age 19 in 1991. Pudge matched Carlton Fisk, a Hall of Famer who played for Boston
(1969-80) and the Chicago White Sox (1981-93).
Fisk caught his final game June 22, 1993 in Chicago against Texas, a game in which Rodriguez made his 263rd career appearance behind the plate for the Rangers.
Rodriguez had been tied with Bob Boone, who caught 2,225 games over 19 seasons with Philadelphia, the California Angels and Kansas
Astros manager Cecil Cooper has already said that Rodriguez will catch Wednesday.
