Top-Seeded Rice Upset at NCAA Tournament

HOUSTON -- A.J. Morris threw a complete game and Justin Bloxom hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning as Kansas State beat top-seeded Rice 7-6 on Saturday night and snapped the Owls' streak of 13 consecutive regional victories.

Morris (14-1) threw 144 pitches, including 40 during a four-run rally by the Owls (40-16) in the ninth inning that fell short. He gave up 13 hits, six runs, five earned, two walks and struck out two for Kansas State (43-16-1).

Ryan Berry (7-1) allowed 11 hits and four runs, three earned, in eight innings as Rice's streak, which dated to 2004, ended. The Owls will play in the losers' bracket Sunday against Xavier.

Bloxom hit his third homer of the tournament in the eighth inning to put the Wildcats up 4-3.
