CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Kerron Clement ran the fastest time of the
outdoor season in the 400-meter hurdles, edging Olympic champion
Angelo Taylor in a controversial race at the Adidas Track Classic on Saturday.

Clement, who finished in 48.38 seconds, is gearing up to defend his world championship title in the event in August. The race didn't go smoothly for either of the entrants because of a hurdle mix-up. Race organizers lined up the eighth hurdle too close to the seventh, leaving Taylor and others irritated.

Taylor came in second in 48.70, with Dominican hurdler Felix Sanchez finishing in 48.95 in third.

Allyson Felix finished in first place in her first 200 of the season in 22.66 seconds. Sonya Richards, a bronze medalist in the 400 at the Olympics, moved down to the 200 to finish second behind Felix in 23.03.
