ST. LOUIS (AP) - Cardinals minor league pitcher Ken Maiques has been suspended 50 games after a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The commissioner's office said Friday that Maiques tested positive for "a drug of abuse," but did not disclose the specific drug.
Maiques, from Whittier, Calif., was 0-1 and had allowed six earned runs in 3 2-3 innings covering five appearances for Double-A Springfield of the Texas League.
The suspension is effective immediately.
