RENO, Nev. — Marko Cukic and Patrick Nyeko have signed national letters of intent to study and play basketball at the University of Nevada beginning in 2009-2010, first-year head coach David Carter announced Thursday. Both student-athletes will have four years of eligibility with the Wolf Pack starting this fall.

A 6-9 power forward, Cukic (pronounced CHEW-kitch) comes to Nevada from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he averaged 10 points and seven rebounds. Originally from Serbia, he moved to the United States in 2007 and also spent a year at Greensburg Central Catholic High School in Greensburg, Pa.

“We look forward to having Marko join our program. He’s a skilled forward who we expect to contribute next year,” Carter said. “Marko is very competitive and driven to be a great player.”

Nyeko (pronounced NYE-a-co) is a 6-6 wing who has spent the last two years at Seattle (Wash.) Preparatory School. The all-region selection averaged 14 points and 6.5 rebounds last year in helping Seattle Prep to a 22-9 record and a divisional championship. He moved to the U.S. from London, England and also spent a year in Madison, Wis., before moving to Seattle.

“We are very excited about Patrick. He is an athletic guard who has the ability to guard several positions,” Carter said. “He’s unselfish and is a team player. His best basketball is ahead of him.”
