Reno starter Billy Buckner was sharp over five innings, but the Aces offense couldn’t get going Tuesday night, as the Nashville Sounds topped Reno 5-0 in the series opener at Herschel Greer Stadium.
The Sounds put a run on the board in the first, and that tally would stand up for the remainder of the evening. Nashville added three insurance runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth to take the first game of the series. The loss marks Reno’s fifth-straight and the second time the Aces have been shutout this season.
Buckner (1-2) surrendered two runs on five hits over five-plus frames, taking the loss. He walked two and punched out six. Jon Coutlangus allowed two runs in an inning of work, Jose Marte surrendered a run in 1.2 frames and Billy Spottiswood retired the lone batter he faced.
For Nashville, starter Mike Burns (5-0) worked six scoreless frames, striking out seven while allowing just three hits. Out of the Sounds bullpen, Chris Narveson (4) dealt three hitless innings to earn the save.
At the plate for Reno, Alex Romero, Guillermo Reyes and Buckner each singled, accounting for all of Reno’s offensive output on the night.
On Wednesday, the Aces turn to RHP Hector Ambriz (0-1, 10.13 ERA), while Nashville is set to counter with LHP Chase Wright (1-4, 5.34 ERA). First pitch is set for 9 a.m. PT at Herschel Greer Stadium. All the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
The Aces return home on May 21 for an eight-game homestand. For tickets, stop by the Aces Ballpark Box Office, call (775) 334-7000 or visit www.RenoAces.com.
