Fresno scored 10 runs over the game’s first three innings and never turned back, knocking-off the Reno Aces 14-3 in the series finale Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
The Grizzlies scored once in the first, twice in the second and broke the game open with a seven-run third to take the victory and the series sweep.
Reno starter Seth Etherton (3-2) was pinned with the loss. Etherton allowed 10 earned runs on 11 hits over 2.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out one. Out of the pen, Travis Blackley surrendered four runs—three earned—over 4.2 innings before Josh Ellis came on to toss two scoreless frames.
The win went to Fresno starter Matt Kinney (2-4), who scattered three runs on seven hits over six innings of work. Three Fresno relievers kept the Aces off the scoreboard over the game’s final three frames.
Offensively for Reno, Rusty Ryal homered in the first and Blackley added a two-run single in the fourth. Stephen Drew, Alex Romero and John Hester each chipped in two hits apiece.
Reno now hits the road for an eight-game swing through Nashville and Memphis. On Tuesday, the Aces play the first of a four-game set with the Sounds. RHP Billy Buckner (1-1, 5.29 ERA) gets the nod for Reno. RHP Mike Burns (4-0, 2.63 ERA) takes the ball for Nashville. First pitch at Greer Stadium is set for 5 p.m. PT.
The Aces return home on May 21 for an eight-game homestand. For tickets, stop by the Aces Ballpark Box Office, call (775) 334-7000 or visit www.RenoAces.com.
