Three Crashes at Indy 500 Practice

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Veteran driver John Andretti has crashed at
practice for the Indianapolis 500, the third crash of the day.

Andretti, who had qualified at 221.109 mph, was in danger of being bumped out of the lineup. So he was practicing, trying to find more speed, when he lost control in turn one and hit the wall. He was not injured.

Graham Rahal, the 20-year-old son of former Indy winner Bobby Rahal, had to intentionally spin his car to avoid Andretti's car.

Earlier Sunday, Indy rookies Mike Conway and Alex Tagliani crashed in separate incidents. Conway was admitted to an Indianapolis hospital with bruised lungs.
