All five University of Nevada track and field student-athletes that competed at the Payton Jordan Invite at Stanford Saturday night posted top-10 finishes including Marissa Hammond who finished first in the javelin and Constance McAlman who posted two second-place finishes.
Hammond recorded her second first-place finish of the outdoor season in the javelin with a throw of 42.65m (139-11). Hammond, who is also a forward on the women’s basketball team, recorded a first-place finish in the javelin at the Woody Wilson Invite in April.
McAlman took second in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.95m (183-07). McAlman posted a regional qualifying mark in the hammer at the UNLV Classic to open the outdoor season. McAlman also posted a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.20m (43-03.75).
In the pole vault, Alicia Echeverria placed fifth with a jump of 3.55m (11-07.75). Gina Deckard finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.17.
Christa Avena took seventh in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:49.05, just under two seconds off her PR of 10:47.21, which is a regional qualifying time Avena set earlier this year.
Nevada will compete in the Sac State Open May 9 for the Pack’s last meet before the WAC Championships May 13-16 in Logan, Utah.
