Phillies ace Cole Hamels left Tuesday night's start against Washington in the fifth inning after spraining his left ankle while trying to field John Lannan's bunt.
It was the second straight start in which Hamels came out early. The World Series MVP left last Thursday's outing against Milwaukee with a bruised left shoulder after being hit by Prince Fielder's line drive with one out in the fourth inning.
Hamels was making his fourth start of the season and vying for his first victory. He left with a 5-0 lead after allowing four hits and striking out four in 4 1-3 innings.
