Colorado Rockies outfielder Brad Hawpe was taken to a hospital with a possible concussion after he was hit in the neck by San Diego catcher Nick Hundley's throw to second in the sixth inning Monday night.

Hawpe stayed on the ground as Rockies trainers rushed out to attend to him. He was then rolled over, had a brace put around his neck and helped onto a cart, where he sat upright as he left the field, a medical staffer holding his neck.

The injury occurred when Hundley scooped a ball out of the dirt and fired a throw to second to try and pick off Hawpe, who was sliding back into the bag. The throw sailed to the left side of the base.

Hundley winced as he watched Hawpe get hit by the baseball.
