14-Car Accident Stalls Talladega

There has been a 14-car accident at Talladega Superspeedway involving many race favorites.

The accident started just six laps into Sunday's race near the front of the field when Matt Kenseth appeared to make contact with series points leader Jeff Gordon. The touch made Gordon's car slide toward the top of the track, and the drivers running around them couldn't avoid the contact.

Six of the drivers caught up in the wreck are Chase for the championship contenders. They are Gordon, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer.

Mark Martin, winner of last week's race at Phoenix, was also involved.

NASCAR issued a stern warning toward the drivers before the race to avoid aggressive driving, which is common at Talladega but policed heavily for safety precautions.
