Budding beach volleyball stars will soon be able to play the sport in college.
The NCAA approved "sand" volleyball as an emerging sport for women on Tuesday. The move clears the way for schools to count the sport toward scholarship and financial aid requirements.
The move applies to Division I; the sport had already been approved by Division II.
The NCAA decided to call the sport sand volleyball, instead of beach volleyball, to make it more attractive to landlocked schools.
