SAN DIEGO (AP) - Chad Gaudin and the San Diego Padres agreed to a minor league contract Sunday.
The right-hander, who became available when the Chicago Cubs released him last Sunday, will report to Triple-A Portland and make a start on Saturday.
Gaudin was released by the Cubs after he went 2-1 with a 10.26 ERA in spring training, allowing 19 earned runs and 26 hits over 16 2-3 innings.
Chicago obtained Gaudin from Oakland last July as part of the trade that sent pitcher Rich Harden to the Cubs. Gaudin was 9-5 with a 4.40 ERA in 50 games last season with the Athletics and Cubs. He has a career record of 28-25 with a 4.45 ERA in 185 major league games, including 50 starts.
