Lance Armstrong is defending himself against suggestions he misbehaved during a recent drug test.

The cycling great says in a statement Tuesday he did not try to evade a March 17 test in which a hair sample was collected. Armstrong says he wasn't aware the French government could take the test but he submitted as soon he confirmed with cycling's governing body that it was legitimate.

France's anti-doping agency sent a report on Armstrong's behavior during the test to the governing body and the World Anti-Doping Agency. At question is a 20-minute delay when Armsrong says the tester agreed to let him shower while his assistants checked his credentials.

Armstrong says he submitted urine, blood and hair samples, and all were negative.
