Nevada Women's Tennis Falls to #14 Fresno State

The No. 56 University of Nevada women’s tennis team were downed 7-0 by No. 14 Fresno State Saturday at Lakeridge Tennis Club.

Nevada was unable to get the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles team in the nation, Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova, defeated senior Caroline Bailly and junior Maria Mizyuk 8-6. Bailly and Mizyuk kept the match within one but could not pick up the set.

In the No. 2 position, No. 14 Tinesta Rowe and Melanie Gloria defeated sophomores Caroline Stevens and Aodhnait Lombard. However sophomores Lais Ogata and Florence De Vrye defeated Laura Pola and Bruna Paes in the No. 3 position. Ogata and De Vrye forced a tiebreaker to take the match 9-8 (7-5).

In singles position, Nevada faced three players ranked. Bailly was downed by Gloria, who is ranked No. 14 in the nation, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 position. Petukhova, who is ranked No. 23 in the nation, downed Florence De Vrye in the No. 2 spot 7-5, 6-2 in the longest singles match of the day. Mizyuk was downed by No. 77 Kucerkova in the No. 3 spot 7-5, 6-2.

Nevada will conclude its home schedule on Monday against Hawai`i at noon PT. The match will be Bailly’s final match at home.
