The No. 25 Nevada softball team used the long ball to extend its nation-leading home win streak to 25 straight games. The Wolf Pack blast four home runs, including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the first inning in a 9-3 victory over Louisiana Tech on Friday at Hixson Park.

Nevada improved to 25-10 overall and 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lady Techsters fell to 14-19 overall and 3-3.

Kelsey Starr delivered the big blow in the first inning with her second career grand slam. That was the first of three straight home runs for Nevada as Sam Bias and Sarah Hunt followed with solo shots as Nevada took a 6-0 lead.

The offense was more than enough for Katie Holverson (15-6). The junior tossed another complete game and won her ninth straight decision. She gave up just five hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out seven.

After Nevada’s big first inning, the Lady Techsters got one run back in the second inning and scored twice in the third to cut Nevada’s lead to 6-3. In the bottom of the third, Hunt singled to give the Pack a runner. Junior Jessica Haight then delivered her second home run of the season – and Nevada’s fourth of the day – to push Nevada’s lead to 8-3.

Brittany Puzey singled later in the third inning to extend her career-best hitting streak to 14 straight games. That single also scored Kym Silagyi, who had doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch.

Puzey recorded an infield single in the sixth and went 2-for-3 on the day. Starr finished 2-for-4 with a run and the four RBI while Hunt also collected two of Nevada’s 11 hits on the day.

The teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
