Nevada's Garcin Wins 55th Career Tennis Match

Junior Laurent Garcin picked up his 55th career win singles as the No. 64 Nevada men’s tennis team defeated Montana 5-2 Sunday at Lakeridge Tennis Club. The win is Nevada’s fourth straight and 10th this season.

Garcin defeated Colin Dektar 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles to pass Dave Williams (1978-82), who had 54 wins during his career at Nevada (10-3, 1-0 Western Athletic Conference). Next on the list for Garcin is Arnie DiGeorge (1980-84), who won 57 matches.

Junior Alex Daruty moved up to the No. 2 position against Mikolaj Borkowski. Daruty topped Borkowski 6-2, 6-4 and improve his overall record to 13-5 this season. With 35 wins in his career in singles, Daruty is two wins away from tying Martin Gagnon (1982-85) for 10th in the team’s all-time career singles wins list.

Coming off a loss on Saturday in No. 5 singles, senior Benjamin David bounced back and picked up his fifth win on the season in the No. 3 spot, defeating Felipe Raw 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Kristian Kuharszky picked up his 11th win on the season defeating Carl Kuschke 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 position. Kuharszky is two wins away from tying his career-high of 13 wins in a season.

Junior Gabe Kanzelmeyer earned his 12th win on the season in the No. 6 spot, defeating David Cysneiros 6-1, 6-0. With the win, he has tied his career-high of 12 wins he set last season.

Despite picking up wins in singles, the Wolf Pack was unable to pick up the doubles point. Garcin and junior Augustin Myard picked up the Wolf Pack’s only doubles win in the No. 1 position, defeating Borkowski and Kuschke 8-5.

With five matches remaining, Nevada will finish the regular season in WAC competition, starting with the conclusion of the home schedule on April 10-11 when the Wolf Pack faces No. 67 New Mexico State and No. 23 Boise State, respectively. The weekend will also be the final home matches for David.
