Senior Analisa Serrano recorded a regional qualifying mark in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.87 on the final day of the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by UCLA at Drake Stadium.

Despite hitting the last two hurdles in the race, Serrano set a PR in the race and ran the third fastest time in program history. As a team Nevada finished the two-day meet in eighth place out of 24 teams (44 points). Host UCLA took first in the meet with 164.50 points.

Katie Avena finished fifth in the finals of the 800m (2:15.37) run while Polly Smith finished sixth with a time of 2:15.41. Smith also ran a season-best performance in the 400m hurdles with a sixth-place finish (61.84).

“Both Katie and Polly came back and placed well in the 800m run,” head coach Stantel Twiggs said. “A little flat, but Polly was just coming off a tough 400H, 800m double. She made the final in both and hit a season-best performance in the 400m hurdles. Katie put together her best 800m performances and she has so much to give.”

Costance McAlman placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 46.17m (151-06). She also recorded a season-best mark in the shot put with a mark of 13.06m (42-10.25).

Aurelia Houston just missed the finals of the triple jump, placing 10th with a mark of 11.40m (37-05.00).

“All in all is was great meet for us. We had some ups and downs and some knock out performances,” Twiggs said. “We are not only beginning to put it together individually but also as team. Overall, as a coach, this is the kind of weekend you’re looking for as you are building towards the WAC Championships.”
