The Nevada softball team ran its win streak to 12 straight games with a 3-1 victory in the first game against Hawai'i on Saturday.

But the Wolf Pack’s streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss in the second game of the doubleheader. Still, Nevada took two of three from the Rainbow Wahine and came out of the series with a 24-10 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the Western Athletic Conference.

In game one, Nevada jumped out to a 2-0 lead early. Noelle Micka walked to lead off the game. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kym Silagyi and to third on a single from Brittany Puzey.

Britton Murdock then scored Micka with a sacrifice fly to left and Puzey scored on an RBI single from Kelsey Starr.

After Hawai'i got one run back in the second inning, Nevada scored what proved to be an insurance run in the top of the third as Puzey crushed her team-leading ninth home run of the year and her third in WAC play.

That was more than enough for junior Katie Holverson, who won her eighth straight decision with a complete game effort. She scattered seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter in improving to 14-6 on the year.

In the second game, Hawai'i scored three times early but Nevada came back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. The Pack scored the runs on two hits – a Danielle Patrick double and a Puzey RBI single – and an error.

But the Pack couldn’t get anything else across and fell 3-2. Mallary Darby (10-4) suffered her first loss since Feb. 22.

Puzey went 4-for-6 on the day with a pair of hits in each game and extended her career-best hit streak to 13 games.

Nevada will be back in action next weekend as it returns home to play host to Louisiana Tech. The teams will play a single game on Friday and doubleheader on Saturday.
