The Florida Marlins sent catcher Brett Hayes to AAA New Orleans on Saturday. Hayes was a three-year star at the University of Nevada.
Hayes enjoyed a great spring with the Marlins, batting .381 in 11 games. He's still seen as one of the organizations' top prospects.
Hayes was a three-time All-WAC catcher at Nevada. In 2003, he was named WAC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American.
He was also a member of the Team USA squad that captured gold at FISU II World University Baseball Championship in 2004.
Hayes batted .313 as a junior (his final season) and was a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, presented to the top collegiate catcher.
He was the Marlins second round pick, #79 overall, back in the 2006 MLB Draft.
