Oakland Athletics manager Bob Geren is close to striking a deal with the club for a contract extension.
Oakland assistant general manager David Forst says Sunday the
two parties are "in discussions, close to finalizing something."
Forst would not give specifics on the deal, but the San
Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday that the deal was likely to
be a one-year extension with an option.
Geren, who refused Sunday to comment on the negotiations, is
151-172 with the A's in his only two years as a major league
manager. The 47-year-old Geren is entering the final year of a
three-year deal signed in November 2006.
