Nevada’s Danielle Patrick and Mallary Darby have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 9-15. This is the first career honor for Patrick and the second of the season for Darby.

Patrick, a sophomore shortstop from Chino Hills, Calif., hit .700 (7-for-10) on the week as Nevada swept Santa Clara and extended its WAC-best home winning streak to 21 straight games. In three games against the Broncos, Patrick had four runs, five RBI and two doubles. She recorded a .900 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage. In the first game, she had a double and scored a pair of runs. In game two, Patrick went 3-for-3 – her third career three-hit game – with a run and three RBI. In the series finale on Sunday, she went 2-for-3 with another run and two RBI on her second double of the weekend.

Darby, a freshman from Sparks, Nev., picked up a pair of victories over Santa Clara over the weekend with a 0.78 earned-run average and 11 strikeouts in 9.0 innings of work. In the first victory, she notched her third complete-game shutout of the season by yielding just three hits while striking out six. On Sunday, Darby improved to 9-3 on the season by striking out five and giving up just two hits and one earned run. She now has 110 strikeouts in 91 innings of work.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Kathy Cox of Boise State hit .538 with two home runs as the Broncos went 3-1 on the week ... Fresno State’s Caitlin Stiglich went 3-for-3 vs. Temple last week ... Amanda Tauali‘i of Hawai‘i hit .333 with a home run on the week ... New Mexico State’s Stacey Lien hit .462 with four walks as the Aggies went 3-2 on the week ... Kelli Fangonilo of San Jose State hit .360 and scored the winning run in two games last week as the Spartans went 4-4 on the week ... Utah State’s Emily Reilly hit .600 as the Aggies split a doubleheader with Cal State Bakersfield last week.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Boise State’s Allie Crump went 2-0 with seven strikeouts on the week ... Morgan Melloh of Fresno State went 3-3 with 54 strikeouts against five ranked teams ... Hawai‘i’s Stephanie Ricketts went 2-1 with 18 strikeouts on the week ... Kim Watson of New Mexico State went 1-0 in three appearances on the week ... San Jose State’s Elyssa Fox went 2-1 with a .089 ERA on the week.
