The Anaheim Arsenal rallied in the fourth quarter but fell 113-105 to the Reno Bighorns during a Sunday matinee at the Arena at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Anaheim (15-25) started off strong by shooting 68.2% (15-22) in the opening period to outscore Reno (18-21) 34-28. Ron Allen led the Arsenal with 13 points in the opening quarter before running into early foul trouble with four fouls in the first half. Allen finished with 21 points and 3 rebounds.
Reno guard Lamar Butler countered Anaheim by coming off the bench to score 12 of his 21 total points in the second quarter. Butler sank 3 three pointers in the period as Reno shot 55% (11-20) from beyond the arc for the night.
The Bighorns were able to expand their lead in the third quarter to 17 points as they outscored the Arsenal 30-19 due to six steals and shooting 61.1% (11-18). Bighorns forward David Noel contributed 8 points in the period on his way to finishing with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The fourth quarter saw the Arsenal rally back into the game with Cedric Bozeman scoring 11 points to get the Arsenal within 5 points. Reno’s Rod Benson responded with 9 points of his own in order to keep the Bighorn lead intact. Bozeman ended up leading the Arsenal with 24 points and 7 rebounds while Benson led the Bighorns with 25 points and 7 rebounds.
This was the sixth and final meeting of the teams in Reno’s inaugural season. Anaheim dropped their first game of the series and finished 5-1 against the Bighorns. Anaheim continues at home and will take on the Bakersfield Jam on Tuesday, March 17th at 7:00 p.m. while Reno will travel to Utah to take on the Flash on Wednesday, March 18th with tip off at 6:00 p.m.
