MEXICO CITY (AP) - Yosbany Peraza hit a two-run home run in the
eighth inning and Cuba reached the second round of the World
Baseball Classic with a 5-4 victory over Australia on Tuesday
night.
Cuba trailed 4-3 heading into the eighth before Peraza's pinch-hit homer off Richard Thompson.
Yoennis Cespedes hit a solo homer for Cuba, which is 2-0 in Group B of the 16-team tournament and will face South Korea or Japan when the next round starts March 15 in San Diego.
Aroldis Chapman struck out seven and allowed one run over four
innings, and Ismel Jimenez earned the win with 2 2-3 shutout innings.
Australia faces Mexico on Wednesday to determine who will join Cuba in the second round. The winner will play Cuba for first place in Group B on Thursday.
