Nevada's Bailly WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Fresno State’s Rudolf Siwy and Nevada’s Caroline Bailly have been named Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for March 2-8.

Siwy, a senior from Trinec, Czech Republic (Gymnasium Trinec), teamed up with Mirko Zapletal to notch a doubles win against the No. 8 doubles team in the nation to help propel Fresno State to a 1-1 record against ranked teams over the weekend. The duo defeated No. 8 Omar Altman and Bassam Beidas of No. 14 Pepperdine, 8-6. Siwy and Zapletal registered the Bulldogs’ only doubles win in the 6-1 setback to the Waves. Playing at the No. 1 singles spot, the No. 44th-ranked Siwy overcame a close first set but rolled in the second set in the defeat of Elliot Wronski (No. 72 UNLV), 7-6, 6-1. The singles win helped the Bulldogs to a 5-2 win over the Rebels.

Bailly, a senior from Liege, Belgium (A.R.M. Bevoets), earned her first win against a ranked opponent this weekend after a 7-6, 3-2 (retired) defeat of No. 70 Pichittra Thongdach of No. 25 Boise State. Bailly also defeated Kristina Nedeltcheva 4-6, 7-6 (10-5) in Nevada’s 4-3 loss to No. 69 UNLV. Both her wins came at the No. 1 position, where she is currently on a three-match winning streak.

Other male nominees included: New Mexico State’s Arthur Surreaux, Boise State’s James Meredith, Nevada’s Alex Daruty, Utah State’s Jordan Barlow and Idaho’s Artem Kuznetsov.

Other female nominees included: Boise State’s Laura Baum, Utah State’s Hailey Swenson and San Jose State’s Olivia Marshall.
