The Philadelphia Flyers nullified their trade for Kyle McLaren on Friday, sending the defenseman back to the San Jose Sharks after he failed a physical.

San Jose traded the 12-year NHL veteran to Philadelphia on
Wednesday for a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft.

McLaren has spent this season with the Sharks' top minor-league
affiliate after failing to make the San Jose roster. After
struggling through last season with a persistent knee injury, he
hasn't played for the AHL's Worcester Sharks since Dec. 10 after
injuring his hand in a fight.

"Kyle has been very professional about his situation this
season," San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said. "From the
beginning of the year, we made a commitment to Kyle to find an
opportunity for him to play in the National Hockey League.
Unfortunately, this deal didn't work out, but Kyle will return to
the organization and work towards the full recovery of his hand."

McLaren has six assists and 17 penalty minutes in 17 games with
Worcester. He could be recalled by San Jose during the postseason,
when his salary would no longer count against the cap.
