The Nevada softball team finished play in the DeMarini Invitational on a bad note with a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly on Sunday.

The Wolf Pack fell to 12-9 overall with the loss while Cal Poly improved to 7-6.

It was a pitchers’ duel between Nevada’s Katie Holverson (6-6) and Cal Poly’s Anna Cahn (5-3) and Cahn and the Mustangs came out on top.

After three and a half innings of scoreless ball, Cal Poly struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mustangs pushed a run across with two hits, two walks, an error and they left the bases loaded.

Britton Murdock collected two of Nevada’s three hits and Michelle Beach had the other hit for the Wolf Pack.

Nevada threatened in the seventh as Murdock singled with one out and moved to second on a ground out by Kelsey Starr. Kortnee Wiley pinch-ran for Murdock and she moved to third on a wild pitch. But Sam Bias grounded out to end the game.

Noelle Micka went 0-for-3 and her program-record 17-game hit streak came to an end.

Nevada will return to action on Friday when it plays host to the Wolf Pack Classic. Oregon, Pacific and Southern Utah will be in town for the tournament.
