Reno Bighorns player and former Syracuse Basketball star Damone Brown was arrested in Reno this morning on a felony count of money laundering.
Brown is accused of leasing a safe deposit box at a Buffalo bank for an alleged drug kingpin to store his drug proceeds in. Authorities seized $170,000 from the box before he was arrested.
The news comes after a FBI agent was shot in an early morning drug raid in Buffalo, NY, Damone's hometown.
A spokesperson for the Reno Bighorns said they are aware of the situation, but are unable to comment at this time. The team says information is still being gathered and they plan on addressing it when appropriate.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Guerra says he does not know whether Brown benefited financially from the arrangement. He could
face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
