The Nevada softball team ran its home winning streak to 14 straight with a doubleheader sweep over Sacramento State on Tuesday at Hixson Park.

Senior Brittany Puzey homered in the first game, the 23rd of her career, and she is now tied for the lead in career home runs at Nevada with Candice Rainwater (2003-06).

Nevada improved to 9-7 overall on the year while Sac State fell to 2-6. The Wolf Pack will be back in action this weekend at the DeMarini Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Nevada will take on Minnesota, Auburn, California, Oregon State and Cal Poly.

In game one, Nevada rapped 14 hits and run-ruled the Hornets in five innings, 10-2. Katie Holverson got the complete game victory, striking out seven and allowing just two hits. She improved to 5-4 on the year.

Puzey went 3-for-4 with two runs and a career-high five RBI. She had a two-run triple in the second inning, an RBI single in the third and the homer, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Danielle Patrick also homered for the Pack

In game two, the Wolf Pack got an 11-strikeout performance by freshman Mallary Darby, who leads all Western Athletic Conference pitchers in strikeouts so far this season. Darby scattered six hits and allowed just three walks and the one earned run. She improved to 4-3 on the year

Nevada got on the board in the first inning with an RBI single from Kelsey Starr and a sacrifice fly from Sam Bias to take a 2-0 lead.

The Wolf Pack made it 3-0 in the second inning on an RBI triple from Micka.

After Sac State scored once in the third inning to cut Nevada’s lead to 3-1, senior Katie Stith provided some insurance with a towering home run to left-center, the fifth of her career and her first home run since 2007.

That was more than enough for Darby, who recorded the second double-digit strikeout game of her career.

In the doubleheader, Puzey and Micka each had four hits while Britton Murdock and Sam Bias each had three hits. Micka, Bias and Starr each had two RBI on the day
