Former Wolf Pack star Chad Qualls is ready and willing to take over for the departed Brandon Lyon as the Arizona Diamondbacks closer in 2009.
Qualls showed up early at the team's spring training facility on Saturday, a day early.
"I'm excited to close and to see what I can do and show everybody what I can do," Qualls told KPHO in Phoenix. "I start throwing the middle to late December, but I take it slow. I don't like to start cranking it up too soon because I think the slower I take the throwing, and the more time I take, then you avoid injury."
