La Tech's Dowdell WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Louisiana Tech forward Shanavia Dowdell has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 9-15. This is the second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Dowdell.

The junior from Calera, Ala., averaged a double-double – 19.5 points, 10.0 rebounds – to go along with 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while leading Louisiana Tech to a 2-0 mark. She shot 55 percent (17-of-31) from the field on the two games. In a 77-59 win over Nevada, Dowdell scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds while adding three steals. In a 68-56 win over Hawai‘i, she scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her WAC-leading 13th double-double of the season. She also added three steals and two blocked shots.

Other nominees included: Jamia Malone of Boise State averaged 14.5 points with a career-high-tying 19 points vs. Fresno State ... Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross averaged 16.0 points as the Bulldogs went 1-1 on the week ... Dita Liepkalne of Hawai‘i averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on the week ... Idaho’s Yinka Olorunnife averaged 9.5 points and 15.5 rebounds as the team went undefeated on the week ... Madison Spence of New Mexico State averaged 20.0 points on 54 percent shooting and 4.5 rebounds as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week.
