A former women's hockey player at St. Mary's in Winona and at Buffalo State was among the victims in Thursday's crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407.

St. Mary's University officials learned Friday that 24-year-old
Madeline Linn Loftus was on the plane. She was heading to Buffalo
for a weekend reunion of female hockey players.

Loftus is from Parsippany, N.J. She played hockey for Buffalo
State from 2002 through 2004, then transferred to St. Mary's. She
had 10 goals and three assists over two seasons at Buffalo State.
Her stats at St. Mary's weren't immediately available.

She graduated from St. Mary's in 2006.

St. Mary's athletic director Nikki Fennern says university
officials are deeply saddened. Fennern says Loftus was an important
part of the university and its athletic community.
