Lindsey Vonn cut her right thumb on a champagne bottle while celebrating her downhill victory at the World Championships on Monday.
Vonn required four stitches to close the wound, but team
officials said they did not expect her to miss her remaining
events, giant slalom and slalom.
Vonn was treated by the U.S. Ski Team's medical staff at the
Vonn was already likely to skip the team event Wednesday. Her
next individual event is the giant slalom Thursday, followed by the
Vonn also won the super-G that opened the championships, and her
downhill victory meant she joined Anja Paerson and Maria Walliser
as the only women to sweep the speed races at a World Championship.
Paerson's sweep came at her home championships in Are, Sweden,
two years ago, while Walliser did it on home snow in Crans Montana,
Switzerland, in 1987.
