#23 Wolf Pack Softball Team Improves to 3-1 Overall

Sophomore Britton Murdock homered and drove in four runs as No. 23 Nevada topped Wichita State 12-5 at the Kajikawa Classic on Saturday.

Danielle Patrick and Sam Bias also homered for Nevada, which improved to 3-1 on the year. Wichita State fell to 2-2. The Wolf Pack will conclude play in the tournament on Sunday morning against Kansas.

The Pack had 15 hits in the game, including six extra-base hits.

Nevada got on the board in the bottom of the first with a single run. Brittany Puzey drew a two out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Britton Murdock singled up the middle to score Puzey and give the Pack a 1-0 lead.

The Pack then took control of the game with an eight-run third inning. Nevada recorded nine hits in the frame and scored all eight runs with two outs. Sam Bias slammed a two-run home run and Danielle Patrick hit a three-run shot in the inning. When the dust cleared, the Pack led 9-0.

But the Shockers chipped away at the lead in the fourth inning and chased Nevada starter Mallary Darby in the frame. Darby left with a 9-3 lead and Katie Holverson gave up a two-run single to make it a 9-5 game.

Nevada got a run back in the fifth when Murdock crushed a ball over the left-field fence to make it 10-5.

Kym Silagyi recorded her first triple of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning and it came with two runners on base as Nevada went up 12-5.

Darby got the victory despite yielding five runs. She improved to 2-0 on the year.

Silagyi, Bias, Katie Stith, Sarah Hunt and Patrick each had two hits for the Pack.
