Two Locals Win State Free Throw Contest

The 36th annual Nevada State Elks "Hoop Shoot" National Basketball Free Throw Contest was held at the Hawthorne High School on February 7, 2009. The free contest, for youngsters age eight through 13, was attended by city “Hoop Shoot” winners from Northern, Central and Southern Nevada.

The State winners are as follows:

8-9 years old girl winner was Alysa Dominguez representing the Fallon Elks Lodge. She sank 21 of 25 free throw attempts.

8-9 years old boy winner was Jayson Brooks representing the Mesquite Elks Lodge. He made 22 of 25 free throw attempts.

10-11 years old girl winner was Kassidy Lommori representing the Hawthorne Elks Lodge. She made 18 of 25 free throws attempts.

10-11 years old boy winner was Kyle Kreps representing the Carson City Elks Lodge. He made 20 of 25 free throw attempts.

12-13 years old girl winner was Tyler Sumpter representing the Reno Elks Lodge. She made 17 of 25 shots.

12-13 years old boy winner was Kyle Mahaffey representing the Reno Elks Lodge. He made 20 of 25 shots.

State winners now compete for the West Coast Regional (February 21st in Las Vegas). West Coast winners then compete in the National Finals (April 25th) in Springfield, Mass. The names of the national winners will be inscribed on the Elks National "Hoop Shoot" plaque, on permanent display in the Naiismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
