Former Pack star Chris Dickerson will likely platoon in left field for the Cincinnati Reds, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The paper reports Reds skipper Dusty Baker is going to give Dickerson an opportunity to win at least the left-handed part of a platoon in left.

Dickerson hit .304 with a .413 on-base percentage and a .608 slugging percentage in 102 at-bats last season.

"If we started right now, it would probably be a platoon situation with him and a right-handed bat - whether it's (Jonny) Gomes or Jerry (Hairston Jr.)," Baker told the Enquirer. "I told Dickerson, 'Don't let everybody give away your potential job. You've got to fight for your job.' It's been a long, tough road to get to the big leagues. I'm not going to give away his job. But I'm not necessarily going to give him a job, either.

"I'm going to give him an opportunity to win the job, which he did last year. You've got to give him some opportunity based on what he did last year."

Dickerson made the bigs for the first time at age 26. He hit only .255 with 587 strikeouts over 1,853 minor league at-bats.

"Last year at spring training, he was barely on the radar screen," Baker said. "The thing about sports is everybody doesn't figure it out at the same time. I don't think there's anyone out there with as much ability - speed, power, arm, glove."
